A creative encaustic art workshop where participants create dark, moody imagery with layers of luminous wax and heat-fusing, led by artist Shauna Marie.
Shauna Marie is hosting Spooky WAX: A Haunting Encaustic Art Workshop on Saturday, October 17, at Sawyer Yards in Houston. It's an encaustic art session—meaning you'll be working with hot wax—and the whole thing is built around a dark, moody theme. Over two hours, you'll layer luminous wax and fuse it with heat to build up eerie compositions, working with creepy silhouettes, mysterious textures, and atmospheric details. You'll leave with your own original encaustic painting on a wood panel, either 8x8 or 8x10.
Shauna runs The Art of WAX & Fire, and this particular session is geared toward those who like the moodier side of things. If you've taken her Photos + Wax workshop before, you're welcome to bring pre-printed tissue-paper images to incorporate. If you've done her Layering Workshop, you can bring silhouette cutouts or specialty papers to embed in the wax. Otherwise, you just show up and work with what's there.

All the supplies are included, so you don't need to bring your own materials unless you're adding those personal touches from previous classes. The workshop is limited to eight seats, and it's for ages 18 and older. It runs from 11 AM to 1 PM, with doors opening at 10:45 AM, so you've got a little buffer to get settled before things kick off. You'll find it at The Silos at Sawyer Yards, 1502 Sawyer Street, Houston, TX 77007, in Shauna's Studio, #114.
