Artists open their studios to the public on the second Saturday of each month; admission is free.
Sawyer Yards opens its studios to the public on Saturday, December 12, from 12 PM to 5 PM. It's part of their Second Saturday tradition, where artists across the campus open their doors on the second Saturday of every month. The event is held at Winter Street Studios, 2101 Winter Street, in Houston's Washington Avenue Arts District, just a short distance from downtown.
If you've never been, it helps to get a sense of the scale. Sawyer Yards is one of the city's largest and most active communities of working artists, spread across six transformed warehouses. Inside, you'll find a wide range of work: paintings, sculptures, jewelry, photography, clothing, textiles, printmaking, and mixed media. The studios are open for you to walk through, and the artists are there in person, so you can talk to them about what they're working on and see the process behind the finished pieces. If something catches your eye, you can buy it right there and take it home.
That's the main draw of the day: the chance to step inside the studios and meet the people making the work. It's a casual way to see what's happening in the local art scene without having to commit to a formal gallery opening. You can spend an hour or a whole afternoon, moving from one warehouse to the next and seeing as much or as little as you like.

Entry is free, and parking is free as well, so there's no cost to spend the afternoon there. No RSVP is required—you just show up. The studios are open from 12 PM to 5 PM on Saturday, December 12, at 2101 Winter Street.
