Soulful band blending jazz, funk, R&B and gospel with original songs and covers in a historic venue.
Phoenix Rising Jazz are playing Doc's Houston on Tuesday, October 13, at 7:30 PM. They've called Houston home since 2018, and this date is part of a residency they're settling into at the venue.
Their sound pulls from a few different places at once—jazz, funk, R&B, and gospel—and they mix original songs with covers. It's a wide enough reach that you can hear those influences working together rather than competing for the lead, and they've been playing this city for several years now.
Doc's Houston is the city's newest jazz supper club, housed inside the historic Tower Theatre. The venue describes it as a nod back to when jazz was the pop music people danced to, and the supper club format means the kitchen and bar are open throughout the night, so you can eat and drink while the band plays.
