Family overnight camping experience with STEM activities, rocket building and robotic rovers, among historic spaceflight artifacts at Space Center Houston.
Space Center Houston is hosting a Family Overnight from Saturday, November 7, to Sunday, November 8, a camping trip that puts you right among some of the rarest spaceflight artifacts on Earth. It's built around Veteran's Day, so it's a good one to bring the kids along for.
The camping part is the big draw. You can pitch a 10-by-10-foot tent outside under a twice-flown Falcon 9 rocket, or in Independence Plaza, beneath the Boeing 747 NASA 905 shuttle carrier aircraft and the shuttle replica Independence. If you'd rather stay indoors, you can sleep inside the center, surrounded by the artifacts. Either way, you're spending the night in the middle of the collection.
Between the sleeping and the sightseeing, the weekend is built around hands-on STEM activities. You'll build and launch a rocket, program and operate robotic rovers, and tour the Starship Gallery, which holds multiple flown spacecraft and astronaut training models. The next morning, a tram tour of NASA Johnson Space Center rounds out the experience.
