Hands-on matcha workshop with guided tasting, brewing techniques, and a take-home kit.
Oora Matcha and Pistachio's Coffee are teaming up for a hands-on matcha workshop at POST Houston on Monday, October 12, from 7 to 9 PM. It's held at Pistachio's Coffee, located in the Z Atrium, so you'll be right in the middle of the action.
The session is built around the actual process of making matcha. You'll start with the history of the tea and then move into the preparation: measuring, sieving, and whisking. There's a tasting component too, where you'll compare fresh matcha against stale to hear the difference for yourself. Everyone walks away with their own matcha kit to keep the practice going at home.
Some context on the tea: Oora Matcha sources its first-harvest, single-origin tencha from shaded fields in Uji, Kyoto, a region that's grown Japan's finest tencha for eight centuries. They grind the leaf only after an order is placed and ship it within 24 hours, on the point that most matcha on the shelf was milled six to twelve months ago. That's the fresh matcha you'll be working with during the workshop.
