Free open jazz jam with a house band of top Houston players and visiting musicians from across the city on the docks at Post Houston.
Madison Arts brings its Jazz Jam on the Docks back to Post Houston on Thursday, October 29, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an open jam, which means the house band shares the stage with musicians coming in from across the city. The house band is made up of top Houston players, and the whole night is presented by Post Houston and Madison Arts.
The jam is set along Post Houston's docks in Downtown, and the format is pretty straightforward: the house band holds down the center, and other musicians sit in throughout the evening. It's a recurring free music night that's grown quietly over time—more than 1,700 people RSVP'd for a single jam this past summer, so it's become one of the city's bigger open jazz nights.
Because it's an open jam, the lineup changes as the night goes on. You'll hear the house band as the anchor, with different players from around Houston rotating in to sit with them. It's a mix of artistry, culture, and connection in one of the city's most active creative spaces, and it's open to anyone who wants to listen or play.
