Improvisation troupe Spontaneity pits its improvisers in teams against each other, with the audience voting for the winning duo.
Spontaneity are back at Rox Live on Saturday 24 October with their Duo Competition, a night that puts the audience in charge of the whole thing. If you've never seen them before, Spontaneity is a Halifax improv troupe that builds its shows around audience suggestions. The improvisers make up wacky scenarios on the fly, and the comedy comes from watching them think on their feet and build scenes from scratch right in front of you.
The Duo Competition format takes that and turns it into a contest. Instead of a single ensemble, the night pits teams against one another, with each duo taking their turn to riff on whatever the crowd throws their way. The more you lean into the suggestions, the more the night changes, and the best part is that the audience decides who wins. You're not just watching the show; you're the one calling the shots and picking the winner.
It's a great way to see the troupe's different dynamics side by side, as each pair brings their own energy to the stage. Because everything is made up in the moment, no two sets end up the same, and the whole thing depends on what the room brings to it. If you've got a few weird ideas to throw out, it's a good night to be in the room.
