Second edition of the LOUD WOMEN Fest, a day of DIY punk, indie, rock, hip hop and folk by women and non-binary artists, for ages 19+.
LOUD WOMEN Fest returns to the Seahorse Tavern on Saturday 24 October, its second year in Halifax. Presented by LOUD WOMEN Canada, it follows a sold-out debut, and the lineup this time around pulls from Nova Scotia, across Canada, and over from the UK.
There are eleven acts on the bill, and they don't all sound the same. You've got Alanna Matty, Altered by Mom coming in from Toronto, Amygdala Hijack, Burry, Freya Milliken, Penny & The Pits, SALTLAMP, Shoulder Season, Warlet, and We, Cassie arriving from the UK. The day runs across punk, indie, rock, hip hop, and folk, so the sound shifts as the afternoon turns into night. It's a women and non-binary lineup, and the organisers describe it as a celebration of DIY music, community, and artists doing things on their own terms.
Because it's a festival and not a single headliner, the day is a long one. It runs for six and a half hours, starting in the late afternoon and going well into the evening, with a steady stream of sets rather than one big act and a few openers. If you're only around for part of it, you'll still catch a good chunk of the lineup.
