Single release concert by Jacob Ballard & The Bad Ticket with opener Porch Swing.
Jacob Ballard & The Bad Ticket are playing The Carleton on Friday, October 16, for a single release concert. It's a night built around one new song, with the Dartmouth songwriter taking the stage with his full band.
Ballard has been working in the DIY scene on the East Coast for a while now, and his sound sits in that space between upbeat roots-rock and gritty blues-rock, both of them rooted in old-fashioned rock'n'roll. The two things that hold it together are his fingerpicked guitar style and his soulful vocals. With The Bad Ticket, he's put out three full-length albums over the last few years: Madness in 2022, Songs From the Wishing Well in 2023, and Silver Bloom in 2024. He's played hundreds of shows in between, so this is a band that's well-acquainted with the stage.
Opening the night is Porch Swing, a Haligonian duo made up of Kate Bonomo and Logan Edward MacKay. They bring country, blues and songwriting, with crisp harmonies and gritty guitars. It's a good fit for the bill — two acts working within the same rootsy, guitar-driven territory.
