Stand-up show by Juno-nominated comedian Gavin Stephens, with feature act Rachel Ruecker, at Halifax Live, the city's only independent comedy club.
Gavin Stephens plays two nights at Halifax Live Comedy Club on Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31, with Rachel Ruecker opening both. He's a Juno-nominated comedian and Canadian Screen Award-winning writer from Hamilton who draws on his working-class Caribbean roots for sharp, existential stand-up that balances playful irony and morbid silliness with a stream-of-consciousness delivery. His album All Inclusive Coma earned him a Juno nomination, and his show Park Bench Ontology pairs blue-collar critique with existential dread.
Stephens has performed at Just for Laughs in Montreal and Toronto, SXSW, the Hamilton Fringe, and the South African Comedy Festival. He's got two network comedy specials and two solo shows under his belt, and has appeared on CBC's LOL and The Debaters, and CTV's Comedy Inc. He also writes a column for CBC Hamilton and created hermit-cast, a location-aware weather app that generates anti-capitalist reasons to stay home.
