An acoustic duo performance blending Afro-Cuban jazz, soul, R&B and Latin rhythms, presented as a Sensory-Accessible Concert.
Dee Hernandez is playing the Halifax Central Library on Sunday, October 4, as part of an acoustic duo. The performance takes place in the Paul O'Regan Hall, at 5440 Spring Garden Road, and it's presented by Cecilia Concerts as part of the 2026 Prismatic Arts Festival.
On vocals is Dee Hernandez, a Cuban-Canadian singer who's been an East Coast Music Awards nominee every year from 2023 to 2026. She's joined on guitar by Camilo Villamizar-Bรกez, a Colombian-Canadian musician. Together they work through Afro-Cuban jazz and soul, blending those with R&B and Latin rhythms over warm acoustic guitar. The set pulls from Afro-Cuban jazz and Cuban standards, so it's a mix of the tradition they both come from and the soul and R&B they bring to it.
One detail that sets this apart from a standard gig: it's a Sensory-Accessible Concert. There's a chill space and noise-reducing headphones available, so you can listen at your own pace in a comfortable, supportive environment. It's a thoughtful touch if you're someone who finds loud rooms or crowds a bit much, or if you're bringing someone who does. Cecilia Concerts describes their goal as connecting people across communities through live chamber music, and this fits right into that.
