Better Times Comedy

Better Times Comedy runs every Thursday night at Good Robot Brewing Co., 2736 Robie Street, in the South End. It's a year-round stand-up show, so it's one of those things you can just drop into whenever you fancy a mid-week night out without having to plan your whole month around it. The show starts at 8 PM, and the room is 19+.

It's an award-winning night that's called Good Robot home for a while now, and it took home the title of Best Comedy Night in The Coast's Best of Halifax Awards. The lineup usually mixes a regular cast of Halifax comics with visiting names, so you'll get a fair bit of the local scene on any given week. Because it runs all year, it's easy to make a habit of—you can go once and then come back a few months later and find a different set of faces on the stage.

There are a few things to keep in mind if you're heading in. There's a rotating C$5 tap each week, and you get 15% off food, drinks and retail, so it's a good spot to grab a beer and a bite before the comedy kicks off. If you arrive before 7:30 PM, you're entered into a raffle sponsored by Good Robot, Strange Adventures and Taz Records, which is a nice reason to get there a bit early and settle in.

Tickets are C$15 per person. With the show starting at 8 PM and the raffle entry for anyone in by 7:30, you've got a bit of a window to work with. It's a Thursday night, so it's a low-stakes way to get out of the house before the weekend even starts.
