Aquakultre is teaming up with Symphony Nova Scotia at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium on Saturday, March 20, 2027. The afternoon concert is a fully orchestrated reimagining of tracks from 1783, Aquakultre's album, with the orchestra conducted by Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser. It's a homegrown collaboration: Aquakultre is the artistic voice of Halifax's Lance Sampson, whose poetic lyrics are rooted in African Nova Scotian storytelling.
Sampson is a proud Scotian who traces his roots back to 1783, the same year that gives the album its title. His recent work across documentary television, visual art and music draws on his explorations of ancestry, history and community. He received Creative Nova Scotia's 2025 Black Artist Recognition Award and is currently Artist-in-Residence at the Black Cultural Centre in Cherry Brook. The concert is billed as a homegrown celebration in which history, community and music unite, honouring Black Nova Scotians past, present and future.

It's a matinee, so you'll be out in the South End by mid-afternoon. Tickets start at C$48.50, with a reduced price of C$36.50 for under-30s and students, both including HST and fees. The performance begins at 2:00 pm.
