A formal ceremony honouring twelve inductees into the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame, celebrating the achievements and legacy of Canada's sailing community.
The Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame is inducting its class of 2026 at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on Sunday, October 4, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It's a collaboration between the Hall of Fame and Sail Canada, and the whole point is to recognise the people who've shaped the sport's history across the country — sailors, technical figures, and contributors alike. This year's intake brings twelve new names into the fold, including Joshua Slocum, William Roue, Angus Walters, Larry Lemieux, and Paul Tingley.
There's a specific rule that makes some inductions a given: any Canadian sailor who wins an Olympic or Paralympic medal, or a World Championship in an Olympic or Paralympic class, is an automatic inductee. Four of this year's twelve fit that description, and three of them come from Paralympic classes. The rest are chosen for their broader contributions to the sailing community, so the class mixes those top-end competitive results with the people who've put in the work behind the scenes.

It's a fitting spot for it, too. Seven of the twelve inductees have East Coast roots, so the ceremony is being held right here in Nova Scotia, bringing together sailors and maritime supporters from across the region. The room is limited to 125 people, with priority given to the family and friends of the inductees, and media are invited as well. Tickets are C$35 per person, and the whole thing runs from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the museum, 1675 Lower Water St, Halifax.
