A drama in words and music exploring the legend and legacy of Brother Walfrid, the founding father of Celtic FC.
Walfrid - The Founding Father runs at Cottiers from 11 to 14 March 2027, a drama in words and music that looks at the life of the man behind Celtic FC.
The play follows Andrew Kerins, who grew up in Sligo and became Brother Walfrid, a Marist Brother whose work helped give birth to the club. It's shaped by several accounts of Celtic history, among them Dr Michael Connolly's book Walfrid: a life of faith, football and community and The Bould Bhoys - glory to their name, which covers the club's first league title. The production is presented as an uplifting show of words and music that celebrates community, passion and legendary triumph.
Behind the script is Edmund Kelly, a lifelong Celtic fan who's been attending matches since the early 1970s and whose family hails from Ballymote, the same place as Walfrid. The play is based on a research paper by Dr Michael Connolly, and adapted and directed by Paul Moore as an Arts Enigma production. It's a story that connects a small town in Sligo to the footballing landscape of Glasgow, and the production brings that journey to the stage.
