A Scottish drama exploring the lives of five people fighting to survive in a homeless drop-in centre, performed with live music.
Turn A Different Corner plays at Cottiers on Sunday 18 October, a Scottish drama performed with a live musician. It's built around the story of Charlie Murphy, who at 17 did community service at a Glasgow homeless drop-in centre and encountered the people he usually just walked past.
Those people are the heart of the play. There's a veteran broken by Basra, a grandmother too ashamed to face her grandchildren, a young woman fighting her way back from a past that was never fair, and a father who never got above the worst night of his life. The show asks what separates us from them, following five people through humour, humanity and live music, and shining a light on the strength, wit and hope that refuse to disappear. It's described as gritty, funny and unflinchingly real, and the National Theatre of Scotland has praised its 'rare talent for getting to the inner core of its characters'.

Cottiers itself is a former church in the West End, one of Glasgow's most unique venues, with a public bar, an expansive beer garden and a 60-seat dining room. It's a good spot to linger before or after a matinee, especially if you're coming from across the city. The performance runs from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM BST at Cottiers Theatre, 93-95 Hyndland Street, Glasgow West End G11 5PU.
