Traditional and folk music session with the duo Fuaim, with a complimentary welcome cocktail, in the Glasgow West End.
Fuaim play Gael & Grain on Sunday 25 October, part of a series of traditional and folk music afternoons the West End venue has been running. It's a Glasgow-based duo, and the set pairs lively jigs and reels with soulful folk songs.
The two behind it are Maggie Wallace, from Co. Roscommon in Ireland, on tin whistle, low whistle and mandolin, and David McKay, an Ayrshire singer-songwriter on vocals, guitar and harmonica. Their name comes from the Irish and Gàidhlig word for 'sound', and that's a good place to start with what they do: they write their own compositions alongside collecting and reviving old Scottish folk songs, while exploring the music and stories of rural areas like Roscommon and Argyll. They cite a broad range of influences, from the Corries, Runrig, Silly Wizard and the Pogues to Skerryvore and Hamish Imlach.
There's a welcome cocktail included with your entry, and you get to choose between a Ben Lomond or a Loch Lomond. The partnership comes from two Scottish spirits: Loch Lomond Single Malt and Ben Lomond Gin. It's a Sunday afternoon session, so it's more of a relaxed way into the music than a late-night gig.
