Wa is a Nigerian-born, Ghana-based artist whose work draws from mid-20th century African folk music. He describes himself as a poet, visual storyteller and singer-songwriter, and he's built his sound around Afro soundscapes that blend contemporary folk, indie and retro-soul rooted in his Nigerian heritage. If you're familiar with the glistening atmospheres of Bon Iver and Michael Kiwanuka, that's a good place to start for the kind of textures he works with.
