A one-night concert of the new musical Three of a Kind, by Gregor Blair Satti, at Cottiers Theatre, performed by a cast of fifteen with a live nine-piece band.
Three of a Kind is coming to Cottiers on Sunday 25 April for a one-night concert of the new musical by Gregor Blair Satti. It's a concert version of the show, so the focus is on the music and the storytelling rather than a full production. The cast is fifteen strong, backed by a live nine-piece band, and it's presented by Triple Thread Productions.
The story is set in a small-town North American diner and follows Sam, who puts her own life on hold to care for her mother. From there it works its way through family, grief, friendship, identity and hope. The score is contemporary, and Satti describes it as being inspired by modern musical theatre, Japanese anime and video game music — a mix that puts it in a different place from your typical West End sound.
This isn't a first outing. The show has been in development for several years, with workshops in London and Glasgow and an earlier presentation at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This concert gathers the latest evolution of the piece as it moves towards a full-scale production, so it's a good chance to hear the work in its current form before it goes further.
