Free weekly themed tours led by volunteer guides through the collection at The Burrell Collection, suitable for adults.
The Burrell Collection is running a series of themed tours throughout October, with sessions every Thursday from 1 October to 29 October. Each one is led by one of the museum's volunteer guides, who takes a group through the collection around a single theme drawn from the objects on display. The tours are free, and there's no booking required—you just turn up and meet at the tour meeting point screen near reception.
The format is aimed at adults rather than school groups, so it's more of a slow walk through the galleries than a rushed overview. The collection itself provides the material, and a few areas feature more than others: the French art and sculpture galleries and the death and mourning displays both figure prominently across the programme. The museum also holds what's regarded as one of the finest collections of Auguste Rodin's work in the UK, so that's likely to be a recurring thread.
Because each tour follows its own theme, you can come back more than once and see entirely different parts of the collection. One week might focus on the French galleries, the next on the more somber displays around death and mourning, with the Rodin pieces likely cropping up in between. It's a good way to pick your way through the museum if you'd rather follow a specific thread than wander the whole thing on your own.
