Iconic indie folk band The Mountain Goats perform live at the historic Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow.
The Mountain Goats play the Barrowland Ballroom on Monday 19 October, with Craig Finn & the Band of Forgiveness opening the night. It's a Monday gig, so you'll be heading into the city on a working day rather than a weekend.
For those who don't know them, The Mountain Goats are an American indie rock band formed in Claremont, California, by singer-songwriter John Darnielle. For years the plural name was a bit of a misnomer: Darnielle was the band's sole member, and he remains the only core member. He's worked with a long list of collaborators over the years, including bassist Peter Hughes, drummer Jon Wurster of Superchunk, singer-songwriter Franklin Bruno, Rachel Ware, John Vanderslice, guitarist Kaki King, and Annie Clark of St. Vincent.
Throughout the 1990s the project was known for 'militantly lo-fi' home recordings, most famously made on a boom box and released on cassette or 7" vinyl. Since 2002 the sound has shifted towards a more polished studio approach with a full band, and the group is now based in Durham, North Carolina. Their new album Days came out on 7 August 2026 on their own label, Cadmean Dawn, so this is a tour of the new material.
