A live performance by The Fat Lady Sings, an Irish rock band, presented by Regular Music with Last Night From Glasgow.
The Fat Lady Sings are playing Òran Mór on Monday 30 November, a show put on by Regular Music with Last Night From Glasgow. It's a Glasgow date for a band that's spent most of its life elsewhere.
They formed in Dublin in March 1986 around the songs of singer and songwriter Nick Kelly, with Robert Hamilton on drums, Dave Sweeney on guitars and Finbarr O'Riordan on bass. Almost immediately they moved to London and stayed there throughout their eight-year career. They describe their music as sitting across pop, alternative, Irish and Irish rock — a sound that draws from those different threads.
There's a particular oddity to their story: for all that time working in London, they never recorded. The Glasgow show is part of a wider project to change that. Their albums are being reissued on vinyl with updated sleeves and extensive liner notes, and this live date adds to that effort. If you're into the physical side of music, the vinyl reissues are the other half of the story.
