British-Ivorian singer-songwriter Sekou brings his powerful baritone vocals to Oran Mor as part of his UK headline tour.
Sekou plays Oran Mor on Thursday 17 December, a Glasgow date on his UK headline tour. He's a British-Ivorian singer-songwriter from Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire, and the thing that usually comes up first when people talk about him is the voice: a powerful baritone that carries a lot of weight.
He first got noticed as a teenager posting vocal covers online, and from there he signed to Good Soldier Records. His first big festival moment came in 2022, when he played a debut set on the BBC Music Introducing stage at Glastonbury. Since then, the industry has taken a proper interest: he earned a BRIT Award nomination for Rising Star in 2024 and performed on Later... with Jools Holland.
As for what he actually sounds like, he draws on classic power vocalists like Whitney Houston and Prince, and that influence comes through in the way he handles a melody. He's released a two-part mixtape, In a World We Don't Belong, alongside singles like 'Dangerous Lover' and 'Catching Bodies'. The Glasgow show is part of his UK headline tour, so it'll be his own songs taking centre stage rather than the covers he started with.

It's a mid-week gig in the West End, with doors opening at 7pm at Oran Mor on Byres Road (G12 8QX). If you're not familiar with him, the mixtape and the singles give a good sense of where he's coming from before you head down.
