Saxophonist Paul Towndrow leads the RCS Jazz Orchestra in a performance of Big Band classics.
The RCS Jazz Orchestra are playing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on Wednesday 18 November, with saxophonist Paul Towndrow leading the band. It's a programme of big band classics, and the set runs for about an hour.
If you're not familiar with the big band repertoire, that's exactly what you'll hear here. Towndrow is taking the orchestra through the standards and the showstoppers of the genre, the kind of pieces that define the big band sound. It's a full ensemble on stage, so you'll get the whole brass and reed section going at once, rather than a smaller combo. The performance is about an hour long, which keeps it to a single set.
As for the people on stage, it's the RCS Jazz Orchestra, the big band from the Conservatoire, with Paul Towndrow leading them. He's a saxophonist, and he'll be directing the ensemble through the programme. The concert is held at the Conservatoire's Glasgow home, so it's a local production right in the city centre.
