A three-piece cover band from Glasgow & Dublin playing classic indie anthems at Nice N Sleazy.
Partick Monkeys are playing Nice N Sleazy on Saturday 12 December, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. They're a three-piece cover band from Partick, Glasgow, who have been playing together for 25 years. They describe their set as a greatest-hits collection of classic and alternative anthems, which they aim to recreate faithfully and painstakingly.
The list they draw from covers a fair bit of ground across the indie and alternative songbooks. You'll hear Oasis, The Stone Roses, Ocean Colour Scene, Primal Scream, The Smiths, The Jam, Cast, The Las, New Order, Joy Division, Pulp, and Happy Mondays, among others. It's a broad run of the guitar-driven sounds that defined a few different eras of British indie, from the Madchester scene and the Britpop years through to the earlier post-punk and new wave that sat behind them.
Over those two and a half decades, they've shared stages with a long list of names from the same world. That includes Mani, who played in both The Stone Roses and Primal Scream; Richard Fearless of Death in Vegas; 808 State; Shaun Ryder and Bez of Happy Mondays; Clint Boon of Inspiral Carpets; Shed Seven; and Peter Hook, from Joy Division and New Order. It's a decent cross-section of the bands they cover, so the set should feel like a proper run through that particular side of the record shop.
