Indie favourites Mystery Jets bring their new album to SWG3, kicking off their autumn tour.
Mystery Jets play SWG3 on Sunday 22 November, the Glasgow stop of their autumn tour. They're touring their new album, so the set will be built around that, though they've been around long enough that there's plenty of older material to pull from too.
If you've only caught them in recent years, it's worth knowing where they come from. They formed in 2005 on London's Eel Pie Island and burst onto the scene in the mid-noughties. A few EPs and a track called 'Alas Agnes' got them into NME, and they followed that up with Making Dens in 2006, which went down well with the critics. Twenty One came in March 2008. Since then, they've kept a fairly consistent line-up: Blaine Harrison on lead vocals and keyboards, his father Henry Harrison on guitar and backing vocals, William Rees on lead guitar, Kai Fish on bass, and Kapil Trivedi on drums. Henry doesn't play live anymore, but he's still involved in the writing and recording.
They've always talked about ploughing their own musical furrow, and you can hear it in the way they work. Prog and psychedelia run through their sound, and they draw on a dozen different genres without letting any one of them pin them down. It's that openness that's kept them going across two decades, and it's what they're bringing to the Glasgow show.
