Martin Stephenson and The Daintees bring their live music show to Oran Mor in Glasgow's West End.
Martin Stephenson & The Daintees play Òran Mór on Thursday 10 December, with the show starting at 7:00pm. It's a Glasgow West End date for a band that's spent decades moving between solo work and fronting the full group.
Stephenson has put out more than 40 albums and played thousands of concerts, and his live shows are described as an exuberant tour-de-force that pairs the poet and the comedian. He mixes heart-in-your-mouth intimacy with playful humour and warm self-deprecation, folding in songs old and new alongside stories both sad and hilarious, all held together by finger-picking guitar of the very highest standard. The band's sound roams from rockabilly and show tunes to rootsy pop, straight-ahead rock and punk.
Their four Kitchenware albums — Boat to Bolivia (1986), Gladsome, Humour and Blue (1987), Salutation Road (1989) and The Boys Heart (1992) — were critically acclaimed. After splitting in 1992, the group reconvened in 2008 and released Western Eagle, their first studio album in 15 years, followed by California Star in 2012. Billy Connolly once called him 'My kind of musician'.
