Martin McAloon brings his Steve McQueen - Slight Return UK tour, performing tracks from Prefab Sprout's album Steve McQueen alongside wider selections from the catalogue.
Martin McAloon plays Oran Mor on Sunday 6 December, as part of his Steve McQueen - Slight Return UK tour. He's taking Prefab Sprout's 1980s album Steve McQueen out on the road again, performing all the tracks alongside and in context with a wider selection of his brother Paddy's songs from the Prefab Sprout catalogue. Last year's repertoire stretched to more than thirty songs beyond the album itself, so there's a fair bit of ground to cover. He'll be drawing from a pool of songs that have been covered by many artists including Rod Stewart, Cher, Lisa Stansfield, The Editors, Jimmy Nail and Snow Patrol.
If you're familiar with the record, you'll know it's one of the band's most distinct moments from that era, and hearing it played in a stripped back manner on electric guitar will bring the songs to life in a raw and personal way. The rest of the set will pull from the wider catalogue, so it's as much about the songs remaining relevant, as it is about the album that framed it.
