Chicago-based brass band LowDown Brass Band performs live at The Poetry Club, SWG3, presented by DF Concerts as part of Black History Month 2026.
LowDown Brass Band play The Poetry Club at SWG3 on Wednesday 14 October, with support from We Funky Few. It's a Chicago-based brass band, and the Glasgow date is presented by DF Concerts as part of Black History Month 2026.
If you've never come across them, the LowDown sound is built around a brass frontline of trumpets, trombones and saxophones, all backed by a funky rhythm section of drums and sousaphone. They're rooted in Chicago culture, but they push the traditional brass ensemble in a contemporary direction, weaving street rhythms with conscious hip-hop, reggae and soul. The result sits somewhere between live brass-band energy and the rhythms of contemporary urban music, and they describe their own performances as being built as much for movement as for listening.
It's a long way from Chicago to Glasgow, and they're not coming alone — We Funky Few open the night, so there's a full bill of brass and rhythm on the one. The show is for ages 14 and over, with under-16s attending with an adult.
