An evening of song from the landscapes, language and traditions of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, performed by Julie Fowlis.
Julie Fowlis plays City Halls on Thursday 28 January 2027, with special guests joining her on stage. It's an evening of song drawn from the landscapes, language and traditions of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, and Fowlis sings almost exclusively in Scottish Gaelic.
Her work comes from her Hebridean upbringing, and the songs she chooses carry that same connection to the Highlands and Islands. The music is built around a Gaelic repertoire, and she's a multi-instrumentalist as well as a singer, so you'll hear her pure, evocative vocals rounded out by traditional instrumental textures like whistles and pipes. The night is billed as a celebration of Gaelic culture and contemporary folk artistry, with an atmosphere that's at once intimate and expansive, carrying stories that transcend language through melody, expression and connection.
The venue is City Halls on Candleriggs, Glasgow's oldest purpose-built performance space, dating back to 1841 and renowned worldwide for its acoustics. Its shoebox-style Grand Hall sits at the heart of the city's Centre for Music, alongside rehearsal, recording, broadcasting and webcasting facilities. It's a room that suits this kind of music, where the focus stays on the voice and the instruments.
