Afro-electro collective bringing a vibrant mix of West African rhythms and post-punk to Glasgow.
Ibibio Sound Machine play The Classic Grand on Friday 21 May 2027, starting at 7:00 PM. They're an eight-piece Afro-electro collective formed in London in 2013 around the vocals of British-Nigerian frontwoman Eno Williams and co-founder Max Grunhard.
Their sound pulls together West African rhythms and funk with electronic textures, disco, post-punk and global club energy. The lyrics draw from Ibibio folk stories and poetic imagery, and the band describes the result as 'Afro-futurist'. They've put out five critically acclaimed albums, including Chopping Mountain and their 2024 release Pull the Rope.
They've played a wide range of stages over the years, from Glastonbury, Wilderness, Green Man and the 6Music Festival to WOMAD Australia & NZ and Rock En Seine. They've also supported Coldplay at Wembley Stadium, appeared twice on Later... With Jools Holland and recorded a live session for KEXP.
