A contemporary, queer and hopeful celebration of identity and courage, presented by BA Acting students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
I, Joan runs from Tuesday 3 November to Friday 6 November at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, with BA Acting students taking the lead. It's a contemporary take on the story of Joan of Arc, staged from Charlie Josephine's script.
The play follows Joan against the backdrop of an endless, patriarchal war. Out of the margins comes a young, poor, and unconstrained leader who ignites a rebellion that threatens the status quo. The RCS students bring a contemporary edge to Josephine's script, and the production is described as a joyous, queer, and deeply hopeful celebration of identity and courage.
It's a student production, so you're seeing the BA Acting cohort in action rather than a touring professional company. The RCS itself is a world-leading conservatoire of music, drama, dance, production, and film in the heart of Glasgow city centre, where they run expert training alongside short courses, summer schools, and public performances. This is one of those public shows that opens the building up to the rest of the city.
