A hands-on workshop where participants build their own Halloween decoration using ceramic slab-building techniques, with no prior experience needed.
Art Space G41 is running a Ghost and Ghouls Halloween Handbuilding workshop on Friday 9 October, starting at 18:30. It's a BYOB session, so you can bring your own drinks along while you work. The workshop itself is part of a wider Halloween programme that runs through to Friday 23 October, so there's a fair bit of pottery to get stuck into over the course of the month.
The session is all about slab building, which is where you roll out flat sheets of clay and join them together to build up a 3D shape, rather than throwing on a wheel. An experienced tutor guides you through the process, and you don't need any prior experience to join in. The goal is to make your own Halloween decoration — a ghost, a ghoul, or whatever spooky thing you fancy — and once it's been fired in the kiln, you take your lantern or creation home. Clear glazing is included in the price, so you'll leave with a finished piece.
If you want to take it a step further, there are two ways to add more colour. You can either book a separate session to return and paint your own piece, or you can opt for a specialist glaze for an extra £10 per item. It's a good way to customise things if you've got a specific look in mind.
