A concert by Ferocious Dog, a band that blends traditional Celtic folk instruments with a raw punk rock attitude, performed at Oran Mor.
Ferocious Dog are playing Òran Mór on Saturday 17 October, and they're bringing the Celtic Folk Orchestra along for the night. If you've never come across them, they're a Celtic-folk and punk rock crossover from the West Country, and this show sees them performing as Ferocious Dog featuring the Celtic Folk Orchestra.
The band is fronted by singer Ken Bonsall, with violinist and band leader Dan Booth and Ryan Brooks on lead guitar. They mix traditional instruments like fiddles, whistles and mandolins with a raw, buzz-saw rock'n'roll attitude, and they describe the result as music that's both aggressive and feel-good. They've released the album Fake News and Propaganda, and their live sets tend to lean into that same energy.
There's a bit more to them than just the music, too. They describe themselves as more of a family than a band, and they're known for running foodbanks from their shows, often welcoming guests like the Big Issue, Hunt Sabs and conservationists from Sea Shepherd to the stage. The connection with their audience runs deep: fans have been tattooed in Ken Bonsall's shop, and Dan Booth prints the posters himself. They tour the country with their faithful Hell Hounds along for the ride, so there's a real sense of the people behind the songs.
