Cornwall-based singer-songwriter Essy Sparrow performs her modern indie-folk at The Poetry Club, part of the SWG3 festival.
Essy Sparrow plays The Poetry Club on Thursday 29 October, with doors opening at 7pm. The show is presented by DF Concerts, and Sparrow is the sole bill for the night.
Sparrow is a Cornwall-based singer-songwriter who describes herself as a 'scrappy little songwriter' making modern, nostalgic indie-folk. She grew up in an isolated rural commune in South West England and taught herself guitar at 13 by watching YouTube tutorials during school hours. She built her confidence on the open-mic circuit in Falmouth before breaking through with her debut EP, Still Upset About It Actually. Her music blends layered folk harmonies with contemporary pop production, and she's known for razor-sharp wit and emotional honesty.
BBC Introducing and tastemakers across the UK have championed her, and releases like 'Artists Dreamers' and 'Footnote' have gone viral. The set will draw from that material, the folk harmonies and pop production she's built her sound on, and the songwriting that's seen her move from the open-mic circuit to these kinds of dates.
