Deacon Blues, a tribute act to the Scottish pop-rock band Deacon Blue, returns to the Cottiers Theatre for a live performance.
Deacon Blues are back at Cottiers Theatre on Friday 19 March, a tribute act dedicated to the music of Scotland's own Deacon Blue. The show is presented by Shock City Productions, and it's an over-18s night.
They describe themselves as more than a standard tribute band, and the set is built around the two voices that define the original group's sound. George Porter fronts as Ricky Ross, and Marj Massie takes on Lorraine McIntosh, and together they recreate that particular blend of soaring melodies, soulful conviction and pop-rock swagger that Deacon Blue have been known for since the eighties. It's that vocal partnership that does the heavy lifting here, so if you've always had a soft spot for the Ross and McIntosh harmonies, this is where the focus lies.
It's a full-band setup, and the set is built around the songs and the live energy of the original group. If you're a fan of the pop-rock side of things, that's exactly what they're aiming for. It's a night for anyone who knows the songs and wants to hear them played live in a room with other people who do too.
