Corto.alto brings his acclaimed blend of jazz and club culture to a massive Celtic Connections show at the historic Barrowland Ballroom.
corto.alto plays The Barrowland Ballroom on Friday 29 January as part of Celtic Connections, with special guests joining him on the bill. The night is standing room only, and it's restricted to over-14s, with under-16s needing to be accompanied by an adult.
corto.alto is the moniker of Glasgow-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Liam Shortall. His sound comes from two different worlds: the Royal Conservatoire training he did here in the city and the underground scene he's a part of, where jazz improvisation meets the pulse of club culture, hip-hop and soul. He's a Mercury Prize nominee, and since his debut Bad With Names and the 30/108 project, he's put out THIEF and the collaboration with Mick Jenkins, WHODIS.
He's known for a live show in which he pivots between bass, trombone and electronics, a format that's taken him from Montreal Jazz Fest to the Barrowlands and earned him an AIM Breakthrough Artist award. The set is built around that same switching between instruments, so you'll see him moving across the stage throughout the night.
