Bestselling author Chris Carter talks about his first standalone thriller, Hide and Seek, as part of the Aye Write book festival.
Chris Carter is coming to the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Wednesday 28 October, talking about Hide and Seek, his first standalone thriller. If you've read his Robert Hunter series, you know the territory he works in, but this is the first time he's stepped away from that particular detective to tell a one-off story.
The book follows Sam Stewart, who escapes her abusive husband Nelson, takes on the new identity Mary Smith, and finds herself trapped in a deadly game of hide and seek. It's a high-stakes premise, and Carter will be talking through the book during the session.
There's a good bit of background to why he writes the way he does. Carter was born in Brazil of Italian origin and studied psychology and criminal behaviour at the University of Michigan. While he was there, he worked on the Michigan State District Attorney's Criminal Psychology team, interviewing and studying serial and multiple homicide offenders. He's now based in London, and that early work with actual offenders is the kind of thing that tends to seep into the details of his crime writing.

The talk is part of Aye Write, Glasgow's book festival. It was founded in 2005 and has been an annual fixture since 2007, built around discussion and debate. Most of the festival takes place at the Mitchell Library, one of Europe's largest public libraries and a Glasgow landmark that opened in 1911, so this session at the Royal Concert Hall is one of the events that sits outside the main hub.
It runs from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in the Strathclyde Suite of the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Tickets are £14.94 for the talk alone, or £32.86 if you want the book included to collect at the event.
