A collaboration of four master musicians from Scotland and Ireland, Duncan Chisholm, Michael McGoldrick, Gerry O'Connor and Tony Byrne, as a special Celtic Connections gathering.
Duncan Chisholm, Michael McGoldrick, Gerry O'Connor and Tony Byrne play the City Halls on Sunday 24 January 2027, part of the Celtic Connections festival. It's a quartet of four established names from Scotland and Ireland sharing one stage, and they're billed as a genuine collaboration rather than a showcase of individual talents. The set moves between driving reels, textured airs and moments of quiet reflection, all rooted in the traditions of both countries.
Each musician brings a different voice to the mix. Duncan Chisholm is on fiddle, Michael McGoldrick plays flute, whistle and uilleann pipes, Gerry O'Connor is on banjo and Tony Byrne takes the guitar. They're described as four master musicians from Scotland and Ireland coming together in a collaboration where tradition, creativity and virtuosity meet. The music shifts between the high energy of the reels and the more atmospheric, slower airs, with the quiet moments sitting alongside the faster ones.
As a Celtic Connections gathering, the night is presented as the four of them creating music together in the moment, rather than a series of solo turns. There's a support act opening the evening, so you'll get more than just the main quartet. Under-16s need to be accompanied by an adult.
