A multi-sensory musical candlelight tribute to Whitney Houston performed by the Belford String Quartet at the historic Merchants House.
The Belford String Quartet are taking on the songs of Whitney Houston at The Merchants House of Glasgow on Saturday 28 November. It's part of the Candlelight series, which does exactly what the name suggests: a live musical tribute performed by candlelight in a historic space. This one's a tribute show, not affiliated with Houston, her estate, or her official representatives.
The quartet's tentative programme runs through a good stretch of her career. You'll hear the early pop of How Will I Know and So Emotional alongside the big ballads The Greatest Love of All, One Moment in Time, I Have Nothing, You Light Up My Life, and Saving All My Love for You. When You Believe and I Will Always Love You are in there too, as are It's Not Right But It's Okay, Where Do Broken Hearts Go, I Wanna Dance with Somebody and Higher Love. It's a long list for a single hour, so expect the songs to be played as string arrangements rather than full-length versions.
The venue is The Merchants House of Glasgow at 7 West George Street in the city centre. It's a Victorian building by John Burnet that opened in 1874, serving as the fourth home of the Merchants House, a charitable organisation that goes back to 1605. Inside, it holds around 200 people, with ornate ceilings, stained-glass windows and a sweeping marble staircase that make it a good fit for an intimate concert like this.
