A candlelit concert bringing the music of Pink Floyd to the atmospheric Merchants House of Glasgow, performed by The Quartet Scotland.
The Quartet Scotland are bringing a tribute to Pink Floyd to The Merchants House of Glasgow on Saturday 17 October, part of the Candlelight concert series. It's a string quartet taking on the Floyd catalogue, and the whole room is lit by nothing but candles. The set runs through some of the most well-known songs from across their career: 'Comfortably Numb', 'Another Brick In The Wall', 'Time', 'Money', 'Breathe (In The Air)', 'The Great Gig In The Sky', 'Us And Them' and 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'. It's a tribute, not a Pink Floyd performance, and isn't affiliated with the band or their estate.
The venue is The Merchants House, at 7 West George Street. It was designed by John Burnet and opened in 1874 as the fourth home of the Merchants House, a charitable organisation that goes back to 1605. The hall inside is full of ornate ceilings, stained-glass windows and a sweeping marble staircase. It holds around 200 people, and seating is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis within each zone. Anyone under 16 has to be accompanied by an adult.
