A tribute concert bringing the cinematic soundscapes of Joe Hisaishi to life with the Belford Strings Quartet, performed under the warm glow of flameless candles.
Candlelight: The Best of Joe Hisaishi comes to The Merchants House of Glasgow on 6 November 2026 and 2 January 2027, with both performances starting at 18:15. It's a tribute to the music of Joe Hisaishi, the composer whose work has given voice to some of cinema's most beloved stories, and the set draws from Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro and more. The music is performed by the Belford Strings Quartet, and the whole thing is played by the warm glow of flameless candles. It's a tribute performance, not associated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Hisaishi or his official representatives.
The venue is the Grand Hall of The Merchants House, at 7 West George Street. The building was designed by John Burnet and opened in 1874, serving as the fourth home of the Merchants House, a charitable organisation that dates back to 1605. The room is fully wheelchair accessible, with assigned seating across four zones.
