A Candlelight concert where the Belford String Quartet performs Hans Zimmer's iconic film scores in the historic setting of The Merchants House of Glasgow.
The Belford String Quartet take on the music of Hans Zimmer at The Merchants House of Glasgow on Sunday 8 November, part of the Candlelight concert series. It's a tribute show, so the quartet aren't affiliated with Zimmer himself, but they've put together a broad run through his film scores. The set includes 'Time' from Inception, 'This Land' from The Lion King, 'Zooster's Breakout' from Madagascar, 'Supermarine' from Dunkirk, 'Honor' from The Pacific, 'A Dark Knight' from The Dark Knight, the Wonder Woman Suite, the Gladiator Suite, 'Cornfield Chase' from Interstellar, the Dune Suite, 'Discombobulate' from Sherlock Holmes, and the Pirates of the Caribbean Suite.
The Candlelight format is what it says on the tin: the music is staged in a room lit by thousands of candles, and the whole thing is meant as a multi-sensory experience rather than just a recital. The venue does a fair bit of the heavy lifting here. The Merchants House of Glasgow is a Victorian building by architect John Burnet that opened in 1874, and the Grand Hall is a 200-capacity room with ornate ceilings, stained-glass windows and a sweeping marble staircase. It's a small, enclosed space, so the candlelight should carry across it.
