Electronic legends Cabaret Voltaire bring their final tour to a headline show at the Barrowland, with support from Gazelle Twin.
Cabaret Voltaire play The Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom on Sunday 18 October, part of their final UK tour. They're supported by Gazelle Twin.
If you've never come across them, they started in Sheffield in 1973 with Stephen Mallinder on vocals and bass, Richard Kirk on guitar, keyboards and sound manipulation, and Chris Watson on sound manipulation and tapes. Watson left in 1981, and the band went on as a duo until they split in 1994. Mallinder and Kirk were the backbone of a sound that helped shape the industrial and electronic genres, from the noise-punk of Nag Nag Nag and Easy Life to industrial funk hits like Sensoria.
Their reach went beyond the band itself. Kirk's solo Sweet Exorcist work helped open the door for Warp Records and the 'bleep' scene that preceded Aphex Twin, Autechre and The Black Dog, while Chris Watson is now a respected sound recordist. The Glasgow date is part of their final UK tour, and the duo have released a new live album, But What Time Is It Really?, after extending their farewell North American tour.
