Funk and soul band Brother Strut perform live at Oran Mor in Glasgow.
Brother Strut play Òran Mór on Friday 23 October, a night of funk, soul and blues from one of the tightest bands of that sort in the UK. They're a Glasgow-based outfit, so this is a home show for them.
Producer and sax player Stevie Jones put the band together in 2012. He'd grown tired of pitching the kind of pop songs he felt A&R men were churning out, and Brother Strut was the alternative. They released their debut album, First Strut Is The Deepest, in November 2013, which went straight to number one on the iTunes chart and later came out in America, Australia and Italy. Funk legend Craig Charles championed that first record on his BBC6 Music Funk and Soul Show.
As session musicians, the line-up has played on records that have sold over half-a-billion copies. That includes work by Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and Amy Winehouse, and they've toured with Van Morrison, Elton John, Madonna and Sting. They run their own eponymous label and continue to draw on the funk, blues and American soul of the 1960s and 70s.
