Interactive musical theatre sing-along with Melisa Kenny and Dean Cargill at The Riding Room, a vintage-style cabaret bar in Glasgow.
Broadway Babies returns to The Riding Room on Wednesday 14 October, the first of a run that keeps going through the autumn. It's a high-energy, interactive musical theatre sing-along staged by the duo Mel and Dean, and the whole thing is built on the crowd joining in with the chorus of their favourite show tunes. There's no stage experience required, so you don't need to be a performer to get involved.
Melisa Kenny hosts the night with Dean Cargill on keys, and the two of them lead the room through the songs rather than performing them as a standalone act. The focus is on the audience singing along, with the show tunes taking centre stage and the crowd filling in the gaps. It's a sing-along in the truest sense, where the people in the room are as much a part of the sound as the music coming from the stage.
It's got a home at The Riding Room, 58 Virginia Street in the city centre, which is billed as Scotland's favourite Queer Cabaret Bar. It's a vintage-style room that programmes burlesque, cabaret and magic alongside expertly crafted cocktails, so this fits right into the kind of night they do there. If you're into musical theatre and don't mind singing along with a room full of people, it's a good spot to spend a Wednesday evening.
