Bill Bailey returns to the stage with a show celebrating the great tradition of vaudeville, mixing comedy, songs and multifarious skills.
Bill Bailey is back on stage at the SEC Armadillo on Tuesday 24 November, with a second date on Thursday 26 November. The new show is called Vaudevillean, and it's built around the old vaudeville tradition — the prime-time entertainment of its day, a mix of comedy, songs and multifarious skills. It's a broad description, but it fits Bailey well: he's a multi-instrumentalist and a multi-lingual performer, and the show leans into that versatility. He's been described as perhaps the foremost practitioner of the tradition and a modern Vaudevillean, and that's exactly what you'll see — a night that pulls from different disciplines rather than sticking to one lane.
There's a good bit of critical weight behind him, too. The Guardian has called him one of our biggest-name comics and a national treasure. The Evening Standard noted that his verbal flights of fancy exude wit, brains and boundless imagination, and The Sunday Times said he's more prolific the older he gets, with no dip in quality. Brian Logan, writing for The Guardian, put it simply: "Bailey does what he, and not what anyone else, pleases."
