Special edition of the Art of Possible series exploring games beyond the consumer market, with talks and panel discussion.
Art of Possible: More Than Games comes to the Glasgow Science Centre on Thursday 29 October, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. It's a special edition of the Art of Possible series, which is now in its tenth year and brings together innovators, creatives and industry leaders to look at how unexpected tech collaborations can spark new ideas and solutions. This particular session is delivered in collaboration with the Scottish Games Network, the umbrella organisation for Scotland's games sector that connects industry, academia, culture and the wider support network around the community.
The afternoon takes Scotland's games heritage as its starting point — names like Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto — and looks at how games design methodologies and technologies have moved far beyond entertainment. The talk focuses on how they're now shaping sectors like education, training, fintech, healthcare and advanced manufacturing. It's less about the games themselves and more about the tools and ways of thinking that come out of making them, and how those find a home in places you wouldn't normally associate with a game studio.
As for what actually happens on the day, the format is a series of lightning talks by experts, followed by a panel discussion and a Q&A. The lightning talks keep things moving, with a few different perspectives laid out in short bursts, and the panel and Q&A give you a chance to dig into the details and ask your own questions. The whole thing is part of the CAN DO Innovation Event Programme, with Glasgow City of Science & Innovation as the lead delivery agency.
