Scotland's U2 tribute band W2 perform live at The Ferry, with support from Somethin' Else.
W2 are playing The Ferry on Friday 23 October, with support from Somethin' Else. W2 are Scotland's tribute to U2, and they've been at it since 1998. They describe their approach as one of authenticity, with a strict rule of no backing tracks — everything you hear comes from the band on stage.
Their set leans on the Irish legends' stadium-rock classics, with 'With or Without You', 'Where the Streets Have No Name' and 'Pride (In the Name of Love)' among the songs they recreate. It's a broad run of the U2 catalogue, so you'll hear the big songs that most people know, played live rather than pulled from a recording.
Opening for them is Somethin' Else, a Glasgow four-piece that's been around since 1990. They play rock, indie, new wave and punk from the 1960s to the present, and they stick to the same live-band ethos as the main act: guitars, drums and bass, with no special effects. Between the two, it's a night of cover bands playing from different eras and styles, both working from the stage rather than a laptop.
