Wine tasting evening exploring the wines of Alsace, Germany, Austria and the UK at the Novotel Edinburgh Centre.
World of Wine is hosting a tasting session at Novotel Edinburgh Centre on Wednesday 11 November, starting at 19:00. The whole evening is built around the wines of Alsace, Germany, Austria and the UK, with the aromatics that define those four regions as the common thread.
It's a bit of a specific spread to get in one room. You've got Alsace and Germany, both famous for their Rieslings; Austria, which does a lot of the same ground with a distinct alpine character; and the UK, where English sparkling wine has become a real thing of its own. Putting them side by side is a good way to see how similar grapes can taste completely different depending on where they're grown, and how the aromatics change from one region to the next.
If you're not usually one for wine talk, that's exactly what the night is for. The focus is on the aromatics — the smells and flavours that make these regions what they are — so you'll be tasting through the four areas and picking up on the differences as you go. It's a guided session, so you don't need to come with any prior knowledge; you just show up and taste your way through.
